August 24 is the day when I get to meet my new students. I am very excited to see my little ones as they begin their first day of all day kindergarten. I have started preparing my room, decorating my bulletin boards, labeling books, etc. I have wondered if I will have kids crying this year.
The first day of school is usually the tough day. I will have to learn all their names, set up rules and routines, walk them to the library, bathrooms, lunchroom etc. I am usually exhausted by the end of the day. There was one year that I forgot to eat lunch. I was very hungry when I got home.
I have been blessed by the fact that in all my years at this school, I have never had any critical incidents. I treasure the positive comments (as well as negative). I am delighted by the experience of teaching each child that I have in my care. At the end of the school year, I am rewarded by the feeling that I have taught them well.
